2014 NHL Draft Spotlight: Conor Cummins

Conor Cummins / Defenceman / Whitby Wildcats / 6’3″ 195 / 2/6/96

Playing out of Whitby this season, Conor Cummins is a high potential defenceman who has a ton of raw potential. Drafted 14th overall by the Whitby Wildcats, a few where surprised to see him selected that high, however based on my live viewings in the past season, I was hardly shocked to see him as a first round selection.

Sudbury Wolves – 2012 NHL Draft Eligible’s

Samuel Schutt / Right Wing / 5’10″ / 171 / Apr. 13, 1994

Schutt is a skilled forward who displays some good mobility and puck skills. He is a good skater who shows above average acceleration and footwork. He does have some good overall puck skills, but has not shown them much this season. Needs to get tougher to play against and stronger on the puck next season. Not on the NHL Draft radar at this time.

Mathew Campagna / Centre / 5’11″ / 181 / Mar. 9, 1994

Campagna struggled all season for the Wolves. He struggled to stay healthy and when he was healthy, he looked to be a player who lacked some drive and didn’t really develop as most would have expected this year. He did show good overall puck skills and vision, but his game really didn’t grow as much as you would have hoped. He will be a mid to late round draft pick, but needs a big year next year to prove that he was the player we all thought he was last year.

Nathan Pancel / Left Wing / 5’10″ / 182  / Jan. 5, 1994

Pancel had a successful rookie season in the OHL. He started out the season as a depth forward, but due to a mixture of injuries and strong play, Pancel found himself in the top 6 mix for the Wolves, and thrived. He is a hard working forward who shows improving offensive skills. He sees the ice well and makes smart plays with the puck in the offense zone. He is a good skater who has above average footwork and acceleartion. He has some room to grow with his strength and size, but could be a late round pick if a team sees potential.
