2014 NHL Draft: Zach Bratina
Zach Bratina / Left Wing / Plymouth Whalers / 6’1″ 165 / 1/6/96
Zach Bratina is a player who was not talked about often about potential first round selections in the 2012 OHL Draft. That said, it was hardly a surprise to see him selected in that spot by the Plymouth Whalers. At TheScout.ca this year, we had him rated 42nd overall, which when you delete americans who are not committed to the league, is fairly standard for late round draft selections.
2012 NHL Draft Scouting Report: Thomas Wilson
Thomas Wilson / Plymouth Whalers / Right Wing / 6’4 / 203 / Mar. 29th, 1994
Write Up
Wilson is one of the more interesting players for the 2012 NHL Draft. He has all the tools that you look for in a potential north to south power forward at the next level. I’ve been a big fan of him since his days with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Greater Toronto Hockey League. He always showed strong upside, and I thought he had NHL potential. He has also had the opportunity to represent both Ontario at the U17 World Challenge, as well as Canada at the Ivan Hlinka tournament last year.
Plymouth Whalers – 2012 NHL Draft Eligible’s
Cody Payne / Right Wing/ 6’2″ / 202 / Jan. 14, 1994
Payne is a forward who has fallen under the radar this season. Playing a depth role for the Whalers, Payne has shown enough to make him one of my dark horses for the 2012 NHL Draft. He brings a high complete level, and always is willing to do what it takes to win. He can drop the gloves, deliver a big hit or block a shot. He has under rated puck skills, and when given the opportunity, can make some skilled plays with the puck in the offensive zone. He has some work to do with his mobility and agility, specifically his first steps. Could be a late round pick if others see the potential that I do.

Wilson has been a real riser this season for the Whalers. The Toronto native has displayed everything that teams look for in a potential power forward at the next level. He is at his best on the forecheck, playing an extremely physical and aggressive brand of hockey, and creative turnovers by forcing defenceman to make an ill advised decision. He has some under rated puck skills, as witnessed by his strong playoff run. He has some things to work on, but don’t be shocked to hear his name called high at the 2012 NHL Draft.
